On the Subject of The Khoury Victory Garden

Neat idea!  Who gets the produce from the "community garden"???

Sylvia Sandefur Boone

Dear Sylvia,

Naturally I'll help myself, but if anyone wants some it's there for the taking. It's truly a community garden and it is on public land. I figured if anyone wants something, they must need it. I won't get upset. I've got plenty of stuff at my house.

I've got Dennis Herbert collecting water for me behind his store. He said he's going to get some things out of it. It really hasn't produced a lot yet, because it's a late garden.

My daughter Natalie is excited about it. She's helped me some. She's moving in with us temporarily, since she will start teaching 11th grade English at PCHS in about 2 weeks.

Dear James,

I'm glad you've found something you enjoy doing to help fill your days since leaving the Commission.  And it's just like you to find some way to make it good for the community.

Produce for providing life-sustaining water to the plants seems only fair.  Tell Dennis, though, that if the plants don't produce enough for you AND him, it'll be b/c his water was lacking nutrients and he'll just have to go to Kroger!

Hope Natalie enjoys teaching  HS English.  FVHS was supposed to be my first position.  I always wondered what it would've been like to teach where I had attended only a short while before.  I know you'll enjoy having at least one of your girls home again (especially if you know it's not permanent!!)

I'll cruise past the melon patch next time I drive through the Valley!

Love,
Sylvia

(This is supposed to be from my best friend.....)

a gallon of round-up should take care of all those weedy things. Why do I keep trapping all those gallons of H2O just for you to take credit for it all......?? I am going for the squash when it starts putting out.........

Got any hickory nut trees started?  I also like figs, persimmons, and of course pomgranates (sp?)..  How about some walnuts???  How about a few strawberry bushes or even some watermelons??

Your watering friend and buddy,

Rock Herbert

If that's the case, I can see why you won't publish anything from your enemies!!!!

James, I think you missed your calling.  You should have been a farmer. A word to the wise: don't let Duke Lane or the other big farmers in the area find out about your hobby or a lawsuit could be in the making. ha
