Herbert Jewelers Mailbag

The Last Hurrah

These are some of the last photos taken of Herbert Jewelers that were posted on Jana Herbert Anthoine's Facebook as well as some final tributes to the Herbert Family.

One of our former employees, Paul Gill, drove from Atlanta on Friday to see us. He worked for us during high school.

High school buddies, Wes & Jean Wheeler came from Americus
for one last visit!

Very sad day indeed for the City of Fort Valley. Main Street will never look the same to me.

I was sad to see the postcard arrive in the mail announcing the last day of Herbert's.  Since the announcement of the store's closing, we have made several trips to Herbert's when in the Valley, and bought some wonderful pieces - both as gifts and for ourselves.  It felt as if we and everyone else wanted to hold onto a little piece of history...plus, their jewelry has always been wonderful.

I have mixed feelings about not being in town over this weekend but I think it would have made me too sad.  This, combined with so many things recently, is just another depressing reminder that my youth is SO long gone.  Turning 40 has made me even more sappy and sentimental than normal, I guess.

Thanks for the e-mail and best of luck to all of the Herbert clan.  They and the store will be missed!!

Last night several folks were thinking and talking about Herbert's here in Dalton.  Two of us actually grew up in FV & we've known them our whole lives.  We were wishing we could have come down for the BIG sale.

I still have my charm bracelet that mom & dad gave me with charms from Herbert's.  There was another friend who actually had a new diamond ring that she rec'd at Christmas from her kids who live in Perry.  As you know, Herbert's has touched the lives of so many folks all over the country.  Like you said, Main St. FV will not be the same without this special jewelry store!!  Best wishes to the Herbert's!!

OK, Let's get together and play some golf!  I don't play well but I have fun and my golf ball stock is soaring with all I lose!

Sorry we couldn't get by, just not that easy for us to get out when we want to.

Dennis, best of all to you and Peggy.  We'll have to get together soon, real soon.  Maybe James can get a day off from William??
