Old Fort Valley High School
January 2010

These photos are courtesy of Danny Gilleland, Staff Photographer and Columnist for The Leader-Tribune. I found these and other photos in the online edition of the L-T which can be found at : Click here: The Leader Tribune . I believe these were recently taken on 12/29/2009.

Many of you, like me, are graduates of Fort Valley High School. Needless to say this old building has special meaning to a number of us. Most of you may be too far away to personally visit our Alma Mater; these photos are graphic evidence of the state of disrepair that has befallen our old school.

Limited funds for educational purposes has been the main reason for the deterioration in the building. Funds are barely available for facilities that actually house and educate children. This building hasn't been used for many years.

Hopefully, Fort Valley State University may be in a position to take control of this building and use it for their School of Business. If this happens, the millions of dollars needed to restore this building could become available.

Remains of a dead pigeon in the hallway.

A typical classroom: falling ceilings, broken windows and pigeon droppings.
