Fort
Valley High School
Greenwaves Memorial
This request is to
Fort Valley High School alumni, family and friends. Our Alma Mater needs your
help in creating a permanent memorial to all the teachers, staff and
students who graced the hallowed halls of Fort Valley High
School.
Last year the
classes of 1966, 1967 & 1968 held a very successful joint class
reunion that was very meaningful to all and is still having risidual
affects. Thanks to Debbie Spearman, a fund raising effort was started to
have a memorial bell to honor all of the FVHS students who have passed
on. A total of $1,400 was raised initially to complete this
project.
Months later, the
fund raising committee came up with a different idea to preserve our
Greenwave heritage. Instead of a bell, why not a bronze replica of our High
School emblem, the Greenwave?
The ingenious idea
was the brainchild of Al Pearson who also volunteered to be the sculptor to
design this memorial. After months of great expectations, Al did not disappoint
us. Below is a clay model of the Greenwave memorial that Al created. The
plan is to have it cast in bronze to permanently memorialize this part of our
legacy and to have it placed on display with a masonry base on the high school
property.
This ambitious
project will require more funds. It is estimated that to have this bronze
Greenwave replica with the base, a memorial plaque and landscaping will cost at
least
$6,000.
Several alumni have
already made a contribution to this project already, but this request for
donations is open to ALL classes of FVHS. If you would like to contribute
to this project, donations can be made to James Khoury, (Class of '66), Debbie
Spearman (Class of '67), or Al Pearson (Class of '68). Your check should be made
out to FVHS Memorial Fund.
