Between The
Hedges...Again
(KNS) Athens, Ga. >
On Saturday, Oct. 11, The Kommish and family had a memorable return to the
University of Georgia. The occasion was Georgia vs. Tennessee between the
hedges.
My daughter Natalie
Khoury is a grad student and an English instructor at UGA. Her bosses gave her
tickets to the game which included passes to the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall,
lunch with the coaches and high school recruits and a chance to walk on the
field at Sanford Stadium during the pre-game warm-ups. Natalie asked Cheryl and me to join her.
By chance, one of the
coaches who sat with us at our table was Coach George Bobo,
father of
Georgia's offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. I reminded the Coach of Peach
County's visit to Thomasville in 1992 when the Trojans defeated his
team while his son Mike was the quarterback. The Coach remembered the Peach
County visit well and said "I never saw a team with so much
talent."
Later we ran into assistant
coach Mike Bobo himself and I reminded him of that game as well. I tried to
be nice because I didn't want to upset Coach Bobo before the game since he
would be calling the offensive plays in just of a couple of hours.
This was just the beginning
of an extraordinary day for all of us.

Coach Richt surprised everyone as he mysteriously
appeared from out of nowhere after we viewed a Georgia highlight film.
I was really impressed when I saw him in person. He has a very personable
demeanor and serves as a good role model for the University. He
stated Georgia is # 1 in graduation percentage of football players.

Notice gentleman with leather
helmet. I asked him what was the story behind it. He said they
usually called him into the game in the fourth quarter (to Play), but not when
the game was close. He knew the peach families, Pearsons and
Dickeys.
